Circle Jig Plans
65Doing the circle jig
Ever wonder how to make a round table or a curved bar? The most accurate way to to build any radiused project is with a router circle jig. And I can show you how to make one that is extremely precise and easy to make and use.
Today I was thinking I would show you my free circle jig plans to maybe help out a fellow woodworker. As a cabinet maker I’ve built a lot of radiiused desks, work stations and other custom, one-off, roundish or curved pieces. So I know I know how priceless a working circle jig is to a project.
When I first began I would just make a brand-new very basic circle jig each time I required one and scrap it out when I was done. Ordinarily there was no need for a jig plan. You find the straightest board you can and attach a router to one end.
Well as my projects became more involved, I noticed I often would have to repeat steps or do a series of odd radiuses to go within each other. Plus I never knew what diameter of a circle I was going to have to create. Many diameters were barely over 48” but I have had to make radiuses in excess of 20 feet! These expendable router circle jigs were a waste of time.
So I commenced working on my own circle jig plans. I have created several versions of this jig from many different materials. My personal favorite is plexi-glass or lexan. I generally use a ¼” material whatever I do choose to use.
The nice thing about this circle jig is the adjustment slot and T-hande assembly. This circle jig provides for precision adjustment every time. I put guidelines on the outmost edges of the jig to show the inside and outside edges of the router bit I am using. Line up the mark you need to your laid out radius and hand tighten the T handle and you should be good to go.
If you’re off just a bit, loosen the T-handle and slip the router in or out to exactly where you want it. Re-tighten the T-handle and start your router. When you have your jig set on the money you can put a screw in along the slide part, label it with the size you’re creating and you will be able to duplicate that exact curve as often as you need to.
These router circle jig plans do not have are for refence only. That is because there are many routers out there. You can use the plans and adjust it to your own situation.
